The new owner of a chicken processing plant in rural northeastern Louisiana is predicting longevity and financial success. Residents of Union Parish and surrounding areas hope Foster Farms’ forecast is on the money. The Livingston, Calif.-based company, with about $50 million from the state, is priming the former Pilgrim’s Pride plant in Farmerville with a goal of eventually restoring the former plant’s payroll of 1,300 workers. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday followed by the plant’s restart five days later. About 650 workers will be on the payroll, with more to follow as the plant reaches full production.
