Former LSU Tiger baseball standouts Mikie Mahtook and Kevin Gausman are among a number of athletes who are donating or raising funds for flood victims.

Mahtook, an outfielder with the Tampa Bay Rays, tells LSUSports.net that his foundation, The Mikie Mahtook Foundation, has given a $5,000 grant to the LSU Foundation, which set up a fund designated for flood victims.

“The devastation is heartbreaking,” Mahtook tells the sports website. “Seeing pictures and reading the stories of people losing everything is difficult. We knew we had step up and help.”

Gausman, who pitches for the Baltimore Orioles, and his fiancee have launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for flood victims. The campaign has raised $10,093 of its $30,000 goal as of this morning.

Gausman says on his GoFundMe page that he’ll give the funds raised to the Baton Rouge Area Foundation’s Flood Relief Fund, and that he will donate $15,000 on top of whatever he raises.

Mahtook and Gausman are not the only former LSU stars to assist with flood raise. Shaquille O’Neal and LSU basketball head coach Johnny Jones announced on Tuesday that all proceeds from the 2016 Golf Classic they’re hosting next month will be donated to the area flood relief efforts.
