The stage is set for the April 9 House District 29 special election.
Five candidates qualified to run for the seat left vacant by the death of state Rep. Ronnie Edwards late last month as a result of her two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
The candidates who qualified for the election are: Tyra Banks Sterling, Edmond Jordan, Vereta T. Lee, Albert White and Victor Woods Jr. All of the candidates have registered as Democrats.
Qualifying for the election began on Monday and ended Wednesday.
According to a news release announcing her run, Banks Sterling works as a consultant to nonprofit organizations and is an adjunct instructor at Baton Rouge Community College. She formerly served as a legislative assistant to Edwards when the late representative was a member of the Metro Council.
Lee represents District 2 on the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board. Jordan is a Brusly attorney. Both ran against Edwards last year for the House District 29 seat. Jordan survived the October primary to face off against Edwards in a runoff during the November general election. Woods is an attorney at the law office of Dickerson, LeBlanc & Woods in Addis. White entered the race on the last day of qualifying.
