First-time unemployment claims rise in La.

The number of first-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Saturday increased from the previous week’s total. The Louisiana Workforce Commission figures show the initial claims rose to 4,398 from 4,053 for the week ending July 9. The figure was lower than it was for the comparable week a year earlier, when there were 5,237 initial claims. The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 4,106 from the previous week’s total of 4,048. Continued unemployment claims filed for the week ending Saturday rose to 48,364 from 47,247 for the week ending July 9. The four-week moving average for such claims increased to 47,619 from 47,316.
