The $166 million Federal City Marine Headquarters in Algiers will be dedicated today. Gov. Bobby Jindal, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, and military and economic development officials will be on hand for the dedication of the Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces North Headquarters. Stephen Moret, Louisiana Economic Development secretary, told The Times-Picayune that Federal City is one of the 20 biggest economic development projects in the state. The plan is to grow Federal City into a hub of government and private entities supporting the military. Plans are to have housing as well as a grocery store, among other shops, built in the area, which is the size of the French Quarter.
