Failed ’08 legislative pay raise re-emerges as issue in fall races

In races for the secretary of state, lieutenant governor and others, a failed attempt by Louisiana lawmakers in 2008 to triple their own pay is emerging again and again. “As a lot of political pros back then anticipated, the Great Legislative Pay Raise Debacle of 2008 remains one of the most indelible episodes in this waning four-year term,” writes Stepanie Grace in a Times-Picayune column. “Now, with some of those pay raise proponents about to face voters for the first time since the vote, their opponents are betting that the outrage hasn’t subsided.” Read the full column here.
