The founder & retired chairman/CEO of Global Industries acquired the near-bankrupt Global Divers & Contractors Inc. and its three employees in 1973 and turned it into a worldwide firm with more than 6,000 workers. Through his Horatio Alger Louisiana Scholarship Program, the New Iberia native awards 50 $10,000 scholarships annually. Dore has enriched facilities and academic programs at several universities and schools along the corridor, and established research funds at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Texas. In 2000, he won the prestigious Horatio Alger Award.
