Sponsored by ExxonMobil
When an emergency occurs, local firefighters are often the first to respond. That’s why ExxonMobil Pipeline Company, River Parishes Community College, and the Louisiana Fire & Emergency Training Academy partnered to create the Louisiana Pipeline Emergency Training (La-PET) program in 2025, bringing specialized response training directly to Louisiana firefighters.
ExxonMobil has sponsored pipeline emergency training in Texas for many years. La-PET builds on that experience by offering a program that combines classroom instruction with hands-on field exercises. Participants learn how response strategies differ for crude oil, natural gas, and carbon dioxide incidents before applying those lessons at Louisiana’s dedicated response training prop.
Four classes in, 50 first responders representing 21 departments in 11 parishes have completed the course, which is free of charge to responders and taxpayers alike. By providing recurring opportunities to practice specialized response procedures, La-PET helps first responders build the confidence and muscle memory needed to protect communities across Louisiana.
