In his college basketball debut, Rudy Macklin set an LSU record with 32 rebounds in a victory over Tulane. Macklin remains the Tigers’ all-time leading rebounder and ranks second in scoring behind “Pistol” Pete Maravich. As a senior in 1980-81, Macklin was the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and a first-team All-American, and he led LSU to its first Final Four since 1953. He also played three seasons in the NBA. Today, Macklin is a sports ambassador, helping to promote physical fitness throughout the state.
