Jerry Ceppos became dean of LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication in July. He brings decades of experience in what he calls “the world’s most interesting profession” to the school, having served as executive editor of the San Jose Mercury News and as vice president of Knight Ridder’s 32 newspapers. On the academic side, he spent 3˝ years as dean of the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno. Having lived in Silicon Valley for 25 years, Ceppos is primed with what he calls a “valley mindset” for assuming his new position, embracing the technology swiftly reshaping the media landscape. “When everyone around you is fearless about launching new companies or even new industries, it has to affect you,” he says.
