Dr. Steven Heymsfield, the former director for scientific affairs and obesity at pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co., was introduced as the executive director of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in April. He is the author of more than 400 scientific articles, six books and more than 114 book chapters or reviews; and he calls his new job “a great scientific adventure.” Pennington is the largest academic-based nutritional research center in the world, and Heymsfield pledges to expand partnerships with state and federal organizations in attracting top scientists from the United States and abroad. He is a hiker, an antique collector and an artist in his spare time.
