Foster Poultry Farms in Claiborne Parish has 30 days to submit written and photographic proof that it has stopped unauthorized discharges into a nearby creek to the Environmental Protection Agency and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. That’s because the EPA today issued the company a cease and desist order for discharges of pollutants into a tributary of Leatherman Creek. The order stems from a Jan. 26 inspection of a chicken hatchery at the plant, which revealed unauthorized discharges into a creek that eventually drains into Black Creek Bayou and, in turn, the Red River. Foster Poultry Farms, doing business as Foster Farms Athens Hatchery, operates the hatchery roughly two miles east of Athens on the north side of La. Highway 518.
