Arthur Lauck has a habit of making a career out of his hobbies.
As Business Report details in its Entrepreneur feature from the new issue, Lauck decided after retiring early from his photojournalism job at The Advocate that he and his fiancée (and business partner) Brandalyn Tabor should kick the next chapter of their lives into high gear.
Lauck’s affinity for whiskey and dream of owning a bar led the couple to collaborate on ideas for an upscale whiskey bar, taking down notes on napkins at each bar and restaurant they visited on trips to New Orleans.
Tabor jokingly calls Lauck the “Whiskey-pedia.”
“I can’t tell you what I did 20 minutes ago, but if you point at any bottle on that bar, I can tell you a story about it,” Lauck says.
With a selection of over 300 whiskeys at Lock and Key Whiskey Bar at the corner of College Drive and Corporate Boulevard, Lauck has a wealth of knowledge about his craft he’s eager to share with patrons.
“We didn’t want to just be a bar,” Tabor says. “We thought we could create a place for people to learn about whiskey.”
