Entergy buys land from Woman’s for new substation

Entergy has bought a 7.8-acre tract of land from Woman’s Hospital and plans to build a new substation on the property. Entergy paid $801,542 for the land, which is at Pecue Lane and Airline Highway, where Woman’s is building a new medical campus. The substation won’t just serve the new hospital and medical offices, says Jeff Holeman, a spokesman for Entergy; it will provide power for the surrounding neighborhoods. “This is a good opportunity to serve the load from Woman’s, plus the load that will be coming in the future, too,” Holeman says. Plans are to open the substation in spring 2013, Holeman says. Woman’s is slated to open its $327.7 million medical campus in the summer of 2012. —Timothy Boone
