Developer John Engquist has acquired roughly 36.5 acres of land on Mt. Pleasant Road in Zachary directly across from his growing traditional neighborhood development, Americana. Engquist says he has no plans for the property at this time, adding he acquired the parcel because “we want to make sure whatever goes in there is what we want it to be.”
Engquist, though a limited liability corporation, EV-Americana North, bought the land for $1.4 million from George W. Robinson Jr. Real Estate LLC in a deal that closed Monday.
“That will be a nice piece of commercial development one day,” he says. “But for now we just want to stay on top of it.”
Engquist already owns a parcel just west of the newly acquired land. He says he soon plans to develop that parcel with single-family homes that will be offered in a slightly lower price point than those at Americana.
Americana is a $500 million, 413-acre TND that’s anchored by a 26,000-square-foot YMCA that opened in the fall of 2013. Last summer, Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar signed on as the first major tenant in the TND. —Stephanie Riegel
