Elkins plans to run for House

Barry Elkins, a Greenwell Springs attorney, says he will run for the House District 64 seat. Elkins, a Republican, is running for the seat currently held by Rep. Mac “Bodi” White, R-Central, who is looking to move to the state Senate. District 64 crosses East Baton Rouge and Livingston parishes and covers parts of Central, Zachary and Watson. Elkins co-owns Magnolia Title of Baton Rouge with his wife, Angela LeBlanc. Elkins says he plans to run on a platform of economic growth and crime prevention. Campaign officials say he is the first candidate to announce plans to run for the seat. The election is set for Oct. 22, and qualifying begins Sept. 6.
