Gov. John Bel Edwards has sent President Donald Trump a list of Louisiana’s high-priority coastal projects, for consideration as the White House pushes for new infrastructure projects.
As The Associated Press reports, the Democratic governor says the letter he sent today responds to the GOP president’s request for ideas from governors on spending priorities.
Edwards says the coastal projects would help make Louisiana more resilient in disasters and bolster the nation’s economy by protecting energy production and other industries.
Coastal projects on Edwards’ list include two sediment diversion projects in Plaquemines Parish and a freshwater diversion project in St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes. Also included are a navigation canal project in Terrebonne Parish to reduce saltwater intrusion, and salinity control measures for the Calcasieu Ship Channel.
