Though representatives of Gov.-elect John Bel Edwards and Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne won’t confirm the report, Gannett Louisiana is reporting Edwards is expected to announce Dardenne as his commissioner of administration at a press conference later today on the LSU campus.
The press conference is set for 3:30 p.m. at the West Campus Apartments Activity Center near Kirby Smith Hall, which is where Edwards and his transition team are working to fill out his staff.
Edwards announced Sunday that he would hold a press conference to announce a personnel move, but declined to announce the move in advance.
Dardenne—who was heavily criticized by some of his fellow Republicans after he crossed party lines to endorse Edwards in his runoff against David Vitter—confirmed he is carefully considering a position in Edwards’ administration late last month in an interview with The Clay Young Show podcast.
Dardenne finished fourth in the gubernatorial primary. Edwards takes office on Jan. 11.
