The Baton Rouge Area Chamber says education reform is its No. 1 priority heading into next week’s opening of the legislative session, adding it will also advocate for numerous items “critical to maintaining the positive momentum of the Capital Region’s economic development efforts.” “We join with [Gov. Bobby Jindal] and others in pushing for reforms to empower our school districts, teachers, and parents to provide the best education possible to our young students,” says BRAC President/CEO Adam Knapp in a release. “Having a solid education system is central to the economic competitiveness of our region.” BRAC will also focus on promoting legislation that enhances the state’s ability to compete through incentives and on improving the region’s fledgling transit system. The regular session of the Legislature convenes on Monday and adjourns on or before Monday, June 4. For more details on BRAC’s 2012 legislative priorities click here.
