Editor: Another session, another year of ducking problems

The Legislature has wrapped up its session, and once again elected officials have done nothing to tackle the serious problems facing Louisiana, says Business Report Executive Editor JR Ball. Instead of taking on serious issues, like reforming Louisiana’s tax code, restructuring and repurposing the higher education system, and addressing crumbling infrastructure, legislators spent their time debating a half-baked plan to eliminate personal income taxes and naming a new official gemstone. “Thanks to the ‘we’ve never met a crisis that can’t be ignored’ mentality of the government that we, the people, have put in place, it will be another year in which Louisiana residents will remain some of the poorest, least educated and most unhealthy in the nation,” Ball says.
