East Baton Rouge Parish sales tax collections were up nearly 3.6% in November. According to the city-parish Finance Department, $13 million was collected in the parish, excluding vehicle sales, compared to the nearly $12.6 million that came in during November 2007. Sales tax collections outside the Baton Rouge city limits were responsible for the boost; there was a 9% increase in tax collections at those businesses, compared with a 0.3% drop in tax collections inside the city limits. Vehicle tax collections were down by more than 30% in November, with local auto dealers collecting $763,147. That’s the biggest month-to-month drop in vehicle sales tax collections for the year.
