EBR sales tax collections up 2.6%

East Baton Rouge Parish sales tax collections are up 2.6% through the first six months of the year, when compared with the first half of 2010. Through June, nearly $73.7 million has been collected, compared with nearly $71.8 million by the end of June 2010. The increase in collections is roughly similar inside and outside the municipal city limits. Businesses inside the city limits collected $40.1 million in sales taxes, a 2.45% increase over the nearly $39.2 million through June 2010. During the same period, collections in the parish were up 2.8%, from $32.6 million to nearly $33.6 million. City-parish vehicle tax collections are up 8.5% through the first six months of the year, from nearly $5.2 million in 2010 to $5.6 million this year.
