The value of building permits issued in East Baton Rouge Parish was 19.7% lower in January than it was a year ago. According to the city-parish Department of Public Works’ Inspection Division, the value of projects permitted in the parish was a bit more than $26.7 million, compared with more than $33.2 million in January 2010. The totals from last year were boosted by the Northgate Retail Center just outside LSU, which accounted for $4.1 million in January 2010. Residential construction was also down in January, from $15.4 million last year to nearly $10.9 million.
