The Department of Public Works says the number of building permits issued in East Baton Rouge Parish last month was up by 74, or 4.2%, from September 2010. There were 1,837 total permits issued over the month. Boosted by large projects such as the L’Auberge Baton Rouge casino under construction on River Road and the new Woman’s Hospital campus being built on Airline Highway, the valuation of the permits—$68.4 million—was also up from the $52 million worth of permits issued a year ago. Year-to-date, the number of permits issued, 16,737, is roughly 4% lower than in 2010, while the value of those permits is down by nearly 50%, to $311.3 million. Regardless, the amount of fees collected year-to-date, $3.9 million, dipped only 0.4% from 2010 through September.
