The value of building permits issued in East Baton Rouge Parish during 2010 was 89% higher than the year before. According to the city-parish Department of Public Works’ Inspection Division, the value of projects permitted in the parish was $710.5 million for the year, compared with $375.6 million for 2009. Results for 2010 were boosted by major projects, such as the new Woman’s Hospital campus, the new Renaissance Hotel on Bluebonnet Boulevard and the renovations at Baton Rouge Magnet High School. Residential construction was up 11.2%, from $153.7 million in 2009 to $171 million.
