The value of building permits issued in East Baton Rouge Parish was 6% higher for the first three months of 2011 than it was a year ago. According to the city-parish Department of Public Works’ Inspection Division, the value of projects permitted in the parish during the first quarter was more than $108.8 million, compared with nearly $102.6 million through March 2010. Major projects permitted this year include a new Sam’s Club at Cortana Mall, the North Boulevard Town Square and new headquarters on Siegen Lane for the Safety Council. Residential construction was up slightly less in the first quarter, going from $35.6 million last year to $37.5 million.
