Just nine fewer building permits were issued in East Baton Rouge Parish in November compared to the same month a year ago, the Public Works Department reports. A total of 1,693 permits were issued in November, representing a 0.5% drop from November 2010. Year-to-date, permits are down 2.9%—from 20,802 in 2010 to 20,203 this year—with one month left in the year. Valued at slightly less than $2.7 million, the largest project to receive permitting in November was one to fire-rate corridors in four buildings at Southgate Towers apartments on Nicholson Drive, according to the report. Though the number of permits may be down this year—and the valuation of the projects permitted is down by nearly 23%—the fees collected on them remain better than in 2010. Year-to-date, collections are slightly higher than $4.9 million, up about 9.5% from the $4.5 million collected to date last year.
