Gonzales-based cable and Internet provider EATEL is now offering its new GIG Internet service to customers in Ascension and Livingston parishes, saying the service is 10 times faster than standard high-speed connections.
For about $120 per month, GIG customers will receive Internet speeds of 1 gigabit, or 1,000 megabits per second. Citing website netindex.com, EATEL says the average consumer download speed in the U.S. is 37.1 Mbps, compared to Hong Kong at 101.86 Mbps, Japan at 103 Mbps and Singapore at 133.5 Mbps.
“EATEL’s new GIG Internet service puts Ascension and Livingston parish residents in a unique class of consumers receiving the fastest home Internet connectivity speeds on the planet,” reads a news release from the company.
Customers with the new fiber optic GIG service will be able to download an 8-GB HD movie in a few seconds, as well as a 5-MB e-book or 3-MB MP3 song in under a second.
“With this unique class of service, residents can instantly connect to their cloud services, video chat in real-time without buffering and stream high-definition movies without delay—all at the same time,” says EATEL President Scott Thompson in a statement.
