East Baton Rouge sales tax collections up 1.3% in February

Total sales tax collections inside and outside of Baton Rouge city limits inched upward in February, rising 1.3% to roughly $13.3 million.

According to the latest monthly report the city-parish Finance Department released today, collections inside the city limits increased by $2,897 to $7.45 million for the month. That’s a .04% increase compared to the same month in 2015. Roughly $5.9 million was collected outside of city limits in February, a 3% increase over the $5.7 million collected during the same month last year.

Meanwhile, taxes collected from vehicle sales in all of East Baton Rouge Parish rose less than 1% in February to approximately $1.2 million. Of that total, $602,694 was collected inside of Baton Rouge. Vehicle sales tax collections in the city rose roughly 2% over the same month last year while the taxes collected outside of city limits dropped by $707 to $587,192.
