If you’re trying to get to New Orleans from Baton Rouge today, you’re going to have to take a little detour off of Interstate 10 because of continuing closures near LaPlace due to heavy flooding. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says motorists traveling to New Orleans from the west should take I-10 to U.S. 61 at Gramercy (exit 187), then turn right onto La. 641—which will turn into La. 3213 near the Mississippi River. Continue on La. 3213 to La. 3127, take a left and proceed to Interstate 310, which can then be taken to New Orleans. If you’re trying to get to New Orleans from the east, DOTD says you should take 1-10 west to Interstate 610 west, which will reconnect with 1-10 just west of the city. You can access real-time traffic and road conditions throughout Louisiana by using the 511 Traveler Information System, either by calling 511 or visiting 511La.org.
