It’s moving day for the Downtown Development District. The agency is relocating today to its new digs in the Taylor Building at 247 Florida Blvd., which, conveniently, is just down the street from its former offices at 227 Florida. The move will give the six-person DDD staff much more space in which to work. At 3,000 square feet, the new office is three times the size of the DDD’s old space. More significantly, the new office will house the Design Resource Center, an open space available for planning and design charettes and seminars that focus on the downtown area. This weekend, a group of graduate students from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design will christen the space with a design summit that will center on plans for the downtown library. “We are really excited,” says DDD Executive Director Davis Rhorer. “Not only will this give us a better work environment, but with the Design Resource Center this will give us an opportunity to really educate the community and explain Plan Baton Rouge II, and smart growth and the importance of sound planning.” —Stephanie Riegel
