Charlene Charlet Day, a Zachary attorney, plans to run for an open judge’s seat in the East Baton Rouge Family Court. Day, a Republican, says she plans to sign up to run later today, the first day of qualifying. Day spent 16 years as an elementary and middle school teacher before entering the LSU School of Law. Day says she was motivated to go to law school as a way of fixing some of the family problems she saw in the classroom. She worked as a clerk in the 20th Judicial District after graduation; and for the past 16 years she has been an attorney with Myles, Cook and Day, representing more than 700 family law clients. Day says she has the background to be an effective family court judge. She will face Rep. Hunter Greene, a Baton Rouge Republican who has qualified to run for the seat. The family court seat became open when Judge Toni Higginbotham was elected to the 1st Circuit Court of Appeal. Qualifying for the seat ends on Friday, and the election is set for April 2.
