For years Bobbie Leblanc sold insurance out of her office at 2979 Florida Blvd., but she wanted a job with more flexibility so she could travel to watch her son play basketball for Madison Prep.
She sold her company to ABC Insurance and is now hoping to open daiquiri shop and restaurant where people can go after work for a drink and light meal in her former insurance office.
She has not settled on a name, but is considering something along the lines of Mid City Café. First, she must have the property rezoned from light commercial to bar and lounge commercial alcoholic beverage. Hers is one of at least 11 rezoning applications filed with the Baton Rouge Planning Commission that will be heard at the Planning Commission’s Jan. 19 meeting. The deadline to submit applications was today.
Other applications have been submitted for single and multi-family housing as well as retail spaces and a variety of other uses. The other applications filed are:
- Amending a SPUD site plan for Performance Contractors to now include a gym and café on the ground floor of the proposed four-story parking garage at 9901 Pecue Lane.
- A site plan for a multifamily apartment complex at the corner of Nicholson Drive and Gardere Lane with 115 two-bedroom units and 113 three-bedroom units that is being developed by Matthew Thornton and engineering company T. Baker Smith.
- An application for a subdivision with more than six homes at the corner of Tiger Bend Road and Confederate Avenue, filed by Mickey Robertson with MR Engineering & Surveying to be rezoned from rural to A2.
- A community service center, school, daycare and gym around the 600 block of Staring Lane for the Faith Chapel Church of God.
- A rezoning application for a multifamily residential development called Arlington Plantation on five acres near Doris and Ward streets.
- A rezoning application to put a doctor’s office on Bluebonnet Boulevard between Jefferson Highway and Interstate 10. The application is to rezone the site from A1 to urban design district 1.
- A rezoning application filed by Chris Young with The Young Law Group to rezone Reggie’s Bar and Fred’s Bar and Grill in Tigerland from light commercial to bar and lounge commercial alcoholic beverage.
- A site plan filed by Pelican State Credit Union for a branch and corporate office near the corner of O’Neal Land and South Harrell’s Ferry Road.
- A rezoning application to put a half-acre retail space around the 7200 block of Silverleaf Avenue, near Mickens Road.
