As first reported by Daily Report, plans for an Alamo Drafthouse movie theater at Rouzan have fallen through.
Rouzan developer Tommy Spinosa confirmed his lease with the Beaumont, Texas-based franchisee group planning to develop the theater, Cojeaux Cinemas, has ended. It’s unclear whether the lease, which was signed in fall 2014, has expired or was terminated for other reasons.
“Our relationship with Alamo recently ended mutually and amicably. The Major Street Plan approval delay significantly impacted Alamo’s planned opening,” Spinosa says in an emailed statement.
In the span of one week, three Baton Rouge institutions open for a combined 156 years have all closed. The Camelot Club closed on March 11 amid financial troubles. Then the next day, Carlos’ Cajun Mexican Restaurant shuttered its doors. And now the Ready Portion Meat Company will close for the final time at the end of business today.
Also this week, two Louisiana lawmakers admitted more could have been accomplished during the recent fiscal special session if not for gridlock and feet dragging in both chambers. A new survey shows Louisiana residents have little faith lawmakers can solve the state’s most pressing issues.
Their candid statements came one day after the Revenue Estimating Conference told legislators that the shortfall for the rest of the fiscal year stands at about $70 million, meaning more cuts could be coming to health care and higher education.
