Crown Crafts reported a drop in profits for the quarter ending July 3 and blamed the decrease on rising material, labor and transportation costs. The Gonzales-based maker and distributor of baby items says it earned $530,000, or 5 cents per diluted share, during the quarter. A year earlier, the company earned $726,000, or 8 cents per diluted share. Crown Crafts says it remains confident it has built a solid foundation for growth. Overall net sales were up from $17.2 million a year ago to $17.5 million. And sales of its core bedding, blankets and accessories lines were up 3.3% to $13 million.
