About 230 students will return to Crestworth Learning Academy one week from today, with necessary upgrades to meet fire and other code standards having been completed, Recovery School District officials announced today. In August, RSD announced the school’s students would begin this school year at Glen Oaks Middle School, located about 4.5 miles away, because Crestworth was not up to code. Officials say not only have those issues been addressed, but the school has been enhanced with over 40 new computers, as well as receiving a new paint job, new carpet, upgraded school furniture and a resource room for parents. “We are eager to begin receiving students again as we recognize the desire of the parents, students and the community to reconnect and commence with school activities in the Crestworth building,” says RSD Superintendent Patrick Dobard in a prepared statement. “We are confident that the work that has been done was necessary and will reduce the risk of hazards to children and lead to a high-quality educational experience for all students.” To culminate the renovation efforts, the RSD is hosting “Crestworth Beautification Day: Welcome Back” on Saturday, Oct. 27. The school invites staff, parents and community members to join them at the school, at 10650 Avenue F, between 9 a.m. and noon for the event.
