Roughly 35 homeowners in the Legacy Court subdivision, located off Coursey Boulevard just east of its intersection with Stumberg Lane, are the latest to request annexation into the City of Baton Rouge. The Metro Council is set to take up the request, which includes approximately 5.9 acres, at its regular meeting on Tuesday.

Since May, the council has OK’d a number of annexations into the City of Baton Rouge, including the campuses of Baton Rouge General Medical Center (Bluebonnet) and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, as well as L’Auberge Casino & Hotel, the LSU South Campus and portions of the Mall of Louisiana. The annexations have come in response to an effort to incorporate a new city of St. George from unincorporated portions of the parish. Organizers of the incorporation effort recently submitted petition signatures to get the item on the ballot, and the East Baton Rouge Parish Registrar of Voters is currently in the process of verifying those signatures.

All of the properties annexed in recent months would have otherwise become a part of the new city, should it come to fruition, and the same is true of the latest request.
