The 2009 Leadership Louisiana Class roster reads like a who’s who along the 10/12 corridor. Thirty-six of the 50 spots are filled by community leaders along the corridor. The Council for a Better Louisiana offers the year-long program for leaders from business, government, education and non-profit sectors of the community. It’s goal: Help them understand complex public issues and explore innovative solutions, build statewide networks and inspire civic involvement. The program has more than 800 alumni. Leadership Louisiana requires that participants take part in six two-day sessions in various locations around the state. Says CABL Senior Vice President Stephanie Desselle: “They represent a diverse group of forward-thinking people who care about Louisiana and want to make it better.” Among the participants: French Market Foods Managing Partner Mark Abraham of Lake Charles, Phelps Dunbar Partner Shelton “Dennis” Blunt of Baton Rouge, Attorney Tony Clayton of Port Allen, AT&T Sales Director Stephanie Doiron of New Orleans and Schilling Distributors President Kenny Hix of Lafayette.
