Cool jazz, 1980s stars at the Manship and ‘225’ party on tap

The LSU School of Music presents its ever-popular “Hot Summer Nights, Cool Jazz” series at the School of Music Recital Hall, starting at 7:30 p.m. tonight. The series features the LSU Faculty Jazz Trio, with Brian Shaw on trumpet, Bill Grimes on bass and local drummer Troy Davis. Special guests will visit the stage through the series, from vocalist Phillip Manuel to saxophonist Dave Glasser. The series goes through July 22, and tickets for each show are $20. The group scored major hits with “Love My Way,” “Heaven” and “Heartbreak Beat”; and it provided the name for a classic Molly Ringwald movie with “Pretty in Pink.” Tickets are $40 to $50.
