Less than two months after the $7.2 million North Boulevard Town Square was opened downtown, construction is under way on a companion project, Repentance Park, with completion expected in late summer, says the Downtown Development District. Part of the Riverfront Master Plan, the $3.5 million project is being paid for with state sales tax rebates, the DDD says. It is designed to increase foot traffic through downtown and improve connectivity between the Governmental Building area, the Baton Rouge River Center, the North Boulevard Town Square, and the museums, shops and restaurants near the Shaw Center for the Arts and along River Road and Third Street. The project features ADA-compliant accesses at North Boulevard Town Square, the Old State Capitol Grounds and the Shaw Center, by way of a pedestrian promenade along St. Phillip Street. One of the project’s features is a gradually sloped lawn down to River Road, which will create an amphitheater type space for concerts and other events. A number of renderings are included in a 17-page design presentation of the project, which you can check out here. Read the rest of this story and the entire Real Estate Weekly e-newsletter here.
