The national civil and criminal law firm started by the late high-profile attorney Johnnie Cochran is expanding its Baton Rouge presence. The Cochran Firm has purchased an office condominium in the Reserve at Cedar Lodge for $136,500 in a deal that was filed Tuesday. Darryl Phillips, managing partner and owner of Cochran’s New Orleans offices, says the location near Corporate Boulevard will allow attorneys to meet with clients and experts and have a base to work out of during trials. “We’re gaining more and more of a presence in Baton Rouge,” says Phillips. “After Hurricane Katrina, a lot of our client base shifted there.”
The Cochran Firm is also raising its profile by increasing its local advertising. But Phillips says they’re not ready to start building a full-fledged “bricks and sticks” office in Baton Rouge just yet. The Cochran Firm has more than 25 offices across the United States, including offices in New Orleans, Metairie and Houston.—Timothy Boone
