City Club eyes expansion

The City Club will start meeting with members next week to get input on a $4.5 million planned expansion of the downtown facility. The work would add 2,570 square feet to the club, including a new outdoor courtyard and banquet kitchen on the second floor and an underground bar. This would allow the North Boulevard club to accommodate more large parties. To pay for the construction, the club would level a $2,000 assessment to shareholders and a $1,000 fee to junior members. “Because we are a member-owned club, we want to make sure that everybody is on board with it,” says Pierre Legrand, manager of the City Club. After the stockholders’ meeting next week, Legrand says a series of smaller meetings would be held, leading up to a vote. If the plan is approved by club members, Legrand says the hope is to have the expansion finished before the end of 2012. —Timothy Boone
