Circle K has finalized the purchase of about 1.5 acres of land near the corner of Government Street and South Foster Drive on which it plans to build a roughly 3,000-square-foot retail center. Mark Hebert, who represented the seller in the $153,600 deal, says Circle K hopes to fill the space with a quick service restaurant.

The retail development would neighbor a new Circle K gas station and carwash. Designs for the retail space, as well as a new 4,400-square-foot convenience store, 6,550-square-foot gas pump area and a 1,040-square-foot car wash, all won approval from the Metro Council Zoning Committee in October.

Demolition of an existing gas station on the site has begun, Hebert says. When built out, the retail space will include a drive-thru and would be a great fit for a restaurant that hasn’t yet entered the Baton Rouge market, Hebert says. 5131 Government LLC, managed by Christopher Rinaudo, sold the vacant 1.5 acres to Circle K. Tim Peters, Circle K’s gulf coast region real estate development manager, cited company policy in declining to comment on the company’s plans for the space. —Kelly Connelly
