The owner of Christian Street Furniture has purchased about 60% of the former Dyson House property at 7575 Jefferson Highway for $971,878 from the group of investors who on Monday acquired the 1.3-acre property for $1.5 million.

Christian Street Furniture has about seven years left on its current lease at 7474 Corporate Blvd., Suite 203, according to Mark Hebert of Kurz & Hebert Commercial Real Estate, who represented both the buyer and seller in the deal. Hebert says Christian Street Furniture owner John Burns plans to relocate the furniture store to the Jefferson Highway property after his lease at the Corporate location is up. Burns could not be reached for additional comment.

Burns bought the property from VCBRLAND LLC, whose members include the owners of The Velvet Cactus, which plans to use its portion of the former Dyson House property to create more parking and a second entry point to the restaurant from Jefferson Highway. Located at 7655 Old Hammond Highway, The Velvet Cactus property backs up to the former Dyson House property.

Aside from the Baton Rouge location, Christian Street Furniture also has a warehouse at 606 N. 48th St. and a second store in Metairie. The Dyson House location also was formerly home to The Mail Bag, which relocated about three weeks ago to 7515 Jefferson Highway, inside the Jefferson Plaza retail center, after operating for 22 years at the former location.
