Chef Celeste Gill to open new bistro at Main Street Market

Chef Celeste Gill will serve up paninis, salads, soups and other Louisiana classic cuisine at an open air café slated to open at Main Street Market in May.

Gill will operate the new restaurant called Chef Celeste’s Bistro from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

“I am excited to join the Main Street Market family as a full-time restaurant sharing my favorite Louisiana-inspired recipes,” Gill says in a statement. “I look forward to partnering with local farmers at the Red Stick Farmers Market to highlight the bounty of Louisiana’s vibrant produce in my menu.”

The bistro will serve an expanded breakfast menu on Saturdays that includes pancakes, grits, quiche and grillades, as well as offer a selection of local culinary products such as dressings and gelato for purchase.

Gill currently hosts Main Street Market’s “Fresh from the Market” cooking demonstrations on Saturdays. According to a news release, she received her culinary training in Hawaii and has opened several restaurants during her 22-year-career as a chef.

In a news release, the Big River Economic & Agricultural Economic Development Alliance says the current space will be retrofitted with a new design by Acadian House Kitchen+Bath Design.

The existing footprint of the café will be expanded and provide for an open concept. Countertop seating will be available, BREADA says.

Main Street Market is located downtown at Fifth and Main street.
