Five months after selling its former church and day care center on McKinley Street for $1.37 million, Charity Christian Center has bought a church and Head Start center at 871 O’Neal Lane for $2.2 million, says Linda Bradford, who owns the center along with her husband, Don. “The church that was there had been empty for several years,” she says, adding that services have already begun at the new location. “East Baton Rouge Parish also operates a Head Start program in a building there, and they are now leasing that from us.” Doherty and Susan Jarreau are listed as the sellers of the 3.35-acre property. As part of the deal, which closed Oct. 5, Charity Christian Center sold the Jarreaus a piece of property at Highland Road and West Buchanan Street for $300,000. The Bradfords founded the Christian center and church in 1983, and also hold services at the McKinley Alumni Center. —Steve Sanoski
