The Capital Area Transit System will hold public hearings this week, seeking input on changes in routes and schedules effective in January 2019.
Saying it will “maintain route efficiency” and improve service, CATS is proposing to eliminate three routes, including an express route to the Baton Rouge airport, while adding new route along Blount Road, which runs between Scenic Highway and Plank Road in north Baton Rouge.
The public hearings come as the East Baton Rouge Redevelopment Authority inches closer to acquiring land along Plank Road, with the goal of redeveloping the blighted area. CATS aims to establish Louisiana’s first rapid transit bus line along the same corridor.
CATS staff will be at the meetings to explain the proposed changes as well listen to feedback from those in attendance. Written statements can be sent to staff at the hearings or to the CATS Administration Building.
The meetings will be held:
- Aug. 14 in the Commission Room at the BREC Administration Building from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Aug. 15 at the Downtown Development District from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Aug. 16 at Charles R. Kelly Community Center from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
