Revenue from Louisiana’s state licensed casinos fell 7.1% in April from March. State Police say the 13 riverboats, the downtown New Orleans casino and the four slot casinos at racetracks took in $202.6 million last month. That’s down from $218.1 million in March. The two Baton Rouge casinos were down 4.9% from March, bringing in $17.9 million.
Last month’s tally statewide was 4.9% less than recorded in April 2008. Baton Rouge’s two riverboats were split: Market leader Hollywood Casino brought in $11.2 million, which was a 1.4% increase over the year before. The Belle of Baton Rouge was down 7.2% from April 2008, bringing in $6.7 million.
This is the fourth consecutive month that winnings from gamblers have dropped at Louisiana casinos, putting the state in a pattern with most casino markets in the country that are struggling with the recession.
