Captain D’s has opened its new corporate owned store at 5131 Government St., near North Foster Drive, in Mid City.
The 2,800-square-foot restaurant is the second Captain D’s to open in the greater Baton Rouge area in recent weeks and its ninth location in Louisiana. “Greater Baton Rouge continues to be a development market for Captain D’s as it seeks to expand its presence throughout the region,” the Tennessee-based restaurant chain says in a news release.
Captain D’s opened a new restaurant in Zachary earlier this month, and two additional locations are under construction in Denham Springs and Hammond. Both are slated to open this fall.
The Mid City location features the chain’s new beach design.
Though the chain calls the opening of the new Baton Rouge restaurant a continuation of its 2016 success, Captain D’s hasn’t escaped criticism about opening the location in Mid City.
Some area residents have raised concerns about another chain opening a restaurant with a drive thru on an already-crowded Government Street. Captain D’s shares an intersection with Jack in the Box, Raising Cane’s, Smoothie King, a Circle K convenience store and gas station.
Recent efforts have sought to make Government Street a more walkable, bikeable area.
Captain D’s has 521 restaurants in 21 states. Other Louisiana locations are in Zachary, Alexandria, Leesville, Ruston, West Monroe and Monroe.
