A hard freeze warning is in effect from 11 p.m. today until 9 a.m. Friday for parishes north and west of lakes Pontchartrain and Maurepas as south Louisiana prepares for the coldest temperatures of the season. The National Weather Service’s New Orleans/Baton Rouge forecast office says temperatures are expected to fall below freezing by late evening and bottom out in the lower to mid-20s for several hours overnight and early Friday. “These conditions will kill sensitive outdoor vegetation, harm outdoor pets and have the potential to cause exposed water pipes to burst,” the NWS said.
